Eagleton is currently accepting applications for the Eagleton Graduate Fellowship Program in Politics and Government Class of 2022. The one-year interdisciplinary Fellowship provides a stipend and in some cases tuition remission to students in the program.

The Eagleton Graduate Fellowship offers students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of government, public policy, respectful dialogue, and real-world aspects of the changing political landscape. Throughout the year, Fellows are exposed to diverse viewpoints, challenged to explore emerging themes in American politics, and encouraged to connect the fellowship experience to their chosen fields of study. Key aspects of the program include:

• Learn as part of an interdisciplinary cohort from across Rutgers University
• Unique seminar courses taught by political insiders and public service professionals
• Exclusive access to monthly sessions on wide range of topics throughout the year
• Networking opportunities with alumni, elected officials and political experts
• Diverse government placement options to learn how the system works
• Expand knowledge through comparative state government trip

Eligibility

• Rutgers full or part time graduate students in any school, department, or program from all three campus locations
  
• Students must be enrolled in a Rutgers graduate program for the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters

Racial Politics in a Global Era.

From the Publisher: "In 1964 Malcolm X was invited to debate at the Oxford Union Society at Oxford University. The topic of debate that evening was the infamous phrase from Barry Goldwater’s 1964 Republican Convention speech:”Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” At a time when Malcolm was traveling widely and advocating on behalf of Blacks in America and other nations, his thirty minute speech at the Oxford Union stands out as one of the great addresses of the civil rights era.

Delivered just months before his assassination, the speech followed a period in which Malcolm had traveled throughout Africa and much of the Muslim world. The journey broadened his political thought to encompass decolonization, the revolutions underway in the developing world, and the relationship between American Blacks and non-white populations across the globe-including England."

Teaching Civic Engagement in 2020 & Beyond

Dr. Elizabeth C. Matto, Eagleton associate research professor and CYPP director, served as chair on a panel about the importance of fostering democratic citizenship in the classroom and campus-wide.

Seeing Election 2020 through Gender and Intersectional Lens

CAWP hosted a panel about the importance of applying scholarly research to real-time political events. CAWP scholar Dr. Kelly Dittmar served as chair of the panel and CAWP senior scholar Dr. Kira Sanbonmatsu participated as a panelist.

"While they lean to the political left, that doesn’t mean they reflexively vote Democratic, she said, noting many young Bernie Sanders followers didn’t support presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016. They are looking for a candidate who 'speaks to them and seeks to involve them in a campaign,' said Matto, who studies youth political participation."
