Graduate Fellows Visit Maryland Statehouse

The Eagleton Graduate Fellowship trip to Annapolis, Maryland is always a highlight of the year. A unique experiential education experience in comparative state government, this year's group of Graduate Fellows and Eagleton Science and Politics Fellows met with the Maryland Senate President, House leadership, legislative staff, State Treasurer, and Acting Secretary of State before observing a legislative session and participating in a tour of the historic State House.

Happening Thursday: RU Running

Eagleton's Center for Youth Political Participation will be hosting its annual RU Running Political Campaign Training tomorrow from 5:30PM to 8:00PM at the Eagleton Institute (191 Ryders Lane, New Brunswick). Open to current Rutgers undergraduate and graduate students, attendees will hear from a panel of young elected leaders serving in NJ and a bipartisan panel of campaign consultants. Panelists include:

  • Commissioner Jack DeGroot, Sussex County, NJ
  • Deputy Mayor Quinton Law, Moorestown, NJ
  • Board Member Miriam Bechay, Bayonne, NJ Board of Education
  • Laura Bustamante, Vice President, Tonio Burgos and Associates

Miller Center Partnership with Sweden's  Parliament Leads to New Jersey Visit

The Miller Center on Policing and Community Resilience hosted members of Sweden's parliament responsible for justice, policing, and national security for visit to New Jersey and New York in late-February. The delegation's visit aimed to deepen the understanding of crime-fighting strategies in combating organized and gang-related crime and gun violence, as well as foster collaboration between Swedish policymakers and experts in the United States. The visit included stops at the Newark RTCC (Real Time Crime Center) and New Jersey State Police ROIC (Regional Operations Intelligence Center) for further briefings on crime-fighting strategies, programs, and RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act). March 22: Eagleton Science & Politics Workshop

The Institute's Science and Politics Program will host Bridge Builders: Empowering Scientists to Inform State Policy Through the Committee Hearing Process on Friday, March 22nd from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the Eagleton Institute.

The in-person workshop supports scientists, engineers and healthcare professionals on effective committee testimony navigation, communication, and participation as a subject matter expert. Attendees will engage in a panel discussion and workshop on how sharing their expertise can  contribute to evidence-based policymaking during the New Jersey State legislators’ bill discussion and committee meeting processes. Lunch will be served following the event.
