Rutgers University Hosts Faculty Institute for Dialogue Across Difference

This June, the Institute for Citizens & Scholars held a College Presidents for Civic Preparedness Faculty Institute at Rutgers University at which faculty from around the country came together to share resources and strategies for integrating civil discourse into the classroom. Eagleton Director Dr. Elizabeth Matto, one of the Rutgers faculty members participating in the Institute, hosted a reception at Eagleton for the participating faculty. Members of the Faculty Institute will work collaboratively for the next 18 months to develop intellectual frameworks to support dialogue across differences and become lead designers for their own campus initiatives.

College is not just about building the capacity to pursue a profession. It’s also about building the capacity to be a well-rounded human being who can function as a democratic citizen." -Dr. Elizabeth Matto, Director of the Eagleton Institute of Politics

The Guardian | What would a Harris presidency mean for the elusive, independent female voter?

“The independent segment of the electorate is much harder to define, because that’s where people go when they’re dissatisfied with the two major parties...That dissatisfaction can come from a lot of directions.” -Dr. Kelly Dittmar, Director of Research at the Center for American Women and Politics

NJ Spotlight News | Will Joe Biden overcome debate performance?

“There are very different sides of the story between the media and what the polls say right now versus what the administration is saying...President Biden has certainly remained defiant that he’s going to remain in the race. . . But it’s a very different picture when we’re talking about the voting in the mass public and, of course, those who are up for election in the fall and concerned about how it can affect them down ballot.” -Dr. Ashley Koning, Director of the Eagleton Center for Public iNterest Polling
