Spring semester has begun at Rutgers University. At this transitional moment for our country, the Eagleton Institute of Politics recommits to its mission and renews our focus on studying politics, inspiring engagement, and improving democracy. We will continue to use our research, teaching, and public service to shine a bright light on the practice of politics—highlighting moments when politics reflects the values and institutions of American democracy, and calling attention to times when it falls short, undermining those ideals and challenging our core institutions. The Institute intends to build on the work we pioneered and share it with an even wider audience - empowering our students, our campus, and community to actively participate in shaping democracy.
Eagleton also is looking ahead - next year will mark the Institute's 70th anniversary and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In partnership with Revolution NJ, Eagleton will commemorate these anniversaries by connecting our revolutionary ideals with our contemporary politics. Now is the time to think deeply about our values and the practice of politics and move U.S. democracy toward a “more perfect union.” |
