Deadline Approaching: Voter Registration for NJ Primary Election is Tuesday, May 20

Friendly Reminder from the RU Voting Team: Are you planning to vote in New Jersey’s primary election on June 10? Don't forget, you must be registered at the correct address and affiliated with a political party. For those registered in on-campus housing or graduating this May, be sure to update your registration to your summer residence so you can vote in your local election. Voters can visit their designated polling location up until Election Day and declare a party affiliation in-person.

The deadline to register to vote or update your voter registration address is Tuesday, May 20 at 11:59PM.

The Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) released the final analysis in their Women, Money, & Politics Watch 2024 report series tracking gender and fundraising during last year’s elections. Final Analysis: 2024 Women, Money, & Politics Watch analyzes campaign finance data for all 2024 congressional and state elections by candidate gender, women’s race and ethnicity, and party, revealing key differences in political fundraising between women and men as candidates and donors. The report also identifies obstacles and opportunities for women candidates in this critical domain of political strategy.

  • proposing actionable solutions that align with the inaugural theme,
  • and bringing these ideas to reality.

Meet Senior Eagleton Undergraduate Associate Victoria Richard

Congratulations to Victoria Richard for being selected as a recipient of the Henry Rutgers Scholar Award. The award recognizes graduating School of Arts and Sciences students for outstanding independent research projects. Victoria's project, "Civics in the Digital Age: Navigating Media Literacy and Democracy in the Classroom," examined the teaching of media literacy in New Jersey and Rhode Island classrooms and featured interviews with educators on their preparedness for teaching media literacy in their classrooms. Beyond her research, Victoria was involved in the Center for Youth Political Participation's RU Voting and RU Ready internships, was the Editorial Director of the Eagleton Political Journal, and is a graduating senior Eagleton Undergraduate Associate.

A new Rutgers Eagleton poll finds a majority of New Jersey residents don't know the gubernatorial primaries are a month away. So where do the candidates stand? Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling (ECPIP) director Ashley Koning breaks down the polling.

The Washington Post | She wanted to freeze her eggs. She passed a law to make it accessible.

A law like the one championed by Fisher is why more women across age, race and income level need to be in office, said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics, which researches and provides data on women’s political participation.

“Here is a woman who is now serving and suddenly realizes that these institutions are not prepared for her to be there,” she said. “Making these institutions more hospitable to women is going to raise up different kinds of issues.”
