A Message from the Director: Welcome to Fall 2025

Dear Friends of Eagleton, 

Welcome to the fall semester. This time of year is always marked by transitions – most notably the shift from long, slower-paced summer days to the quickened speed of the semester. To be sure, the Eagleton Institute is off to a fast start. This week, our RU Voting team has been registering students to vote as they move into their residence halls and settle into campus life; our new cohort of Graduate Fellows are getting to know each other and their faculty; and our Rutgers Democracy Lab team is supporting student leaders as they are trained to lead dialogues across difference.

CYPP Welcomes Fall '25 RU Voting Ambassadors

With many new and returning volunteers, Center for Youth Political Participation's (CYPP) RU Voting Ambassadors will support on campus voter registration and mobilization events in the lead up to the November 4th NJ gubernatorial election. Stay tuned.

ICYMI: Women Continued to Outvote Men in '24 Despite Overall Drop in Turnout

On the 105th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guaranteed women the right to vote, the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) took a look at how women’s voter turnout has evolved up to 2024. In every presidential election since 1980, women outvoted and outnumbered men.

Patch | Most NJ Residents Don’t Know Their State Allowed Slavery, Poll Finds

Slightly less than half (45 percent) of New Jerseyans correctly said New Jersey once allowed the enslavement of Black people. Meanwhile, 18 percent incorrectly said New Jersey did not allow slavery, and 38 percent were unsure, Rutgers-Eagleton pollsters reported.

The Hill | Growing number of women launch bids for governor

“We will absolutely see an additional woman governor in the state of Virginia and a strong possibility of a woman governor in New Jersey, which would make us reach a real record,” said Debbie Walsh, the director of the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers University.
