A Message from the Director

With graduation festivities now behind us, it’s a moment both to celebrate our students’ achievements and to prepare for the important work ahead. As only the Eagleton Institute of Politics can, our team of faculty and staff have carried forward our mission forged nearly 70 years ago to link the study of politics with the practice. Through classroom instruction and experiential learning, our students have been equipped with the political understanding, civic skillset, and motivation to be active participants and leaders in the democratic process. Rooted in our research, Eagleton’s teaching and public service builds the capacity of our citizenry.

Congratulations to the 2025 Undergraduate Associates and Graduate Fellows

The 2025 Undergraduate Associate (UA) and Graduate Fellow (GF) cohorts were honored last week with two celebratory graduation events with family and friends. Thank you to keynote speakers - New Jersey State Treasurer, Elizabeth Maher Muoio (UA), and former Chief Counsel for Governor Corzine and current Chair of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance at Connell Foley LLP, Bill Castner (GF) - for sharing their wisdom and experiences in public service with these talented graduates. Each cohort elected class representatives who shared their inspirational journeys at Eagleton: Logan Pineda, Keely Magee, Willa McBride, and Daniela Valverde (UA); Billy Folinusz, Kevin Stawicki, and Gretel Rodriguez Ramos (GF). Congratulations to all 2025 graduates. We are proud to welcome all of you as Eagleton's newest alumni.

Eagleton Spotlight
Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) Donor Spotlight: Katherine E. Kleeman

“I marked my retirement with a planned gift to CAWP reflecting my respect for the Center’s work,” shared Katherine Kleeman, who spent nearly four decades at the Center and the Eagleton Institute of Politics. “My legacy fund included several financial components, but far more valuable is continuing to support work that gave me so much satisfaction: advancing the political engagement of women and girls.”

Kathy joined CAWP in 1980 and retired in 2018 as senior communications officer. Over the years, she co-authored influential research, helped shape educational programs, led public outreach on women’s political participation, and directed Eagleton’s media relations. "Under the leadership of Ruth B. Mandel and Debbie Walsh,” she said, “CAWP has a proud and distinguished history of research, education and public service, a history my gift honors as the Center and the Eagleton Institute of Politics build for the future."

“Other longtime Center colleagues also created legacy funds,” she added. “What better compliment could an employer earn?”

Katherine E. Kleeman’s Legacy Fund supports the creation and dissemination of CAWP’s public communications.

Meet 2025 Eagleton Graduate Fellow Class Representative Billy Folinusz

Graduate Fellow class representative Billy Folinusz is a political science master’s graduate who interned at the New Jersey Assembly Majority Office for his Henry J. Raimondo award. Billy will teach at the United States Military Academy at West Point next year. His remarks highlighted his journey.

“I am here today because I am an Army officer who just entered my 17th year of service, which provided me with the opportunity to continue my personal and professional growth here at Rutgers. I have served across the globe, including a tour of combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. We owe it to those who have gotten us to this moment to fight for what we believe in. Eagleton has prepared us to be effective in that fight. As Theodore Roosevelt once said, 'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.' I have learned something from each of you and have been inspired by your passion, dedication, and work ethic. You all are the dedicated future public servants that this country needs right now.”

Princeton Perspectives | Get to Know the Candidates for Governor Before You Vote

The candidates include people serving in Congress, Mayors, former and current State Senators, a talk show host, union President and some newer to politics. As Dr. Kristoffer Shields shared with Princeton Perspectives in January, for 50 years neither party has held the New Jersey governorship for more than two consecutive terms.

The Washington Post | For these liberal women, the future of Democratic politics is still female

Could Harris have won if only she’d appeared on Joe Rogan? It’s not that simple, according to Kelly Dittmar, the director of research at the Center for American Women and Politics.
