With its founding in 1956, Eagleton blazed a trail in higher education by linking the study of politics with the practice - supplying our students not just with an understanding of politics but with the skills and disposition of engaged citizenship.

Gothamist | What to watch in the NJ governor's race, a possible bellwether for the 2026 midterms

The recent polling has all fallen in Sherrill’s favor. Throughout the summer, a series of polls gave her roughly a 5- or 6-point lead on Ciattarelli. And the latest poll from Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics put Sherrill’s lead at 9 points among likely voters. However, Micah Rasmussen, director of Rider University's Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics, said Ciattarelli is still in “striking distance.”

“We will absolutely see an additional woman governor in the state of Virginia and a strong possibility of a woman governor in New Jersey, which would make us reach a real record,” said Debbie Walsh, the director of the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers University… According to CAWP, 40 women, including incumbents, have announced or filed their candidacies for governor ahead of the 2026 cycle.
