Rutgers Today | What Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger’s Gubernatorial Wins Mean for Women in Politics

"One thing that has been slow to change in New Jersey has been the power of what has been called the “old boy’s network” whereby a small group of men have often had disproportionate influence on who would be the next gubernatorial candidate, particularly in the Democratic party. That is one of the reasons why there have been few women candidates," said Kelly Dittmar, Rutgers University-Camden associate professor of political science and director of research at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

CBS Philadelphia | Sherrill touts "mandate" after winning New Jersey governor's seat. An expert explains what it means.

"I think what she was able to do was sort of link the affordability issues that we've been talking about — taxes, affordable housing — that entire package of issues, she was able to link it to the Trump issue as well," [said Kristoffer Shields, the director for the Eagleton Center on the American Governor at Rutgers University.]
